About the Book

Katie is based on a little girl who came into the flower shop where the author worked. The girl couldn't stand still long enough for her mother to place an order and started doing cartwheels all over the store. Everyone was amazed at the child's energy. So much so, that this is where the book gets it's name. Everyone knew "Cartwheel Katie".

About the Author

Growing up in a family with seven children, story books were always a big part of Cynthia's life. She was encouraged to read, and to write stories of her own. She has lived in Wisconsin all of her life and grew up loving the things that nature has to offer. Much of what Cynthia writes reflects these attitudes.

"I have always loved to write stories and poems. I began to write about the children that I met everyday. Many of my characters are based on my neices and nephews, and the wonderful things they did as children. With my sister Marilyn's illustrations, those characters come to life."

-Cynthia Ponko
