About the Book
How Smiles Got His Name is the wonderful story of a young puppy who learns that the best way to make friends - and find a loving home - is simply to be himself.Smiles is the story of a young puppy who was mistreated in his first home. One day he wandered away from his home and ended up in an animal shelter. The puppy was well cared for in the shelter, but saw many other dogs being taken to new homes.
The young puppy observed other dogs as they were visited by prospective owners and tried to imitate the behaviours of the other dogs, thinking that if he acted as they did, he too would find a new family to live with.
He tried this approach, but families visiting him seemed uncomfortable with his behaviour and didn't take him home.
A mother came to the shelter, with her young son named David.
The puppy was himself and David was immediately attracted to the sweet young puppy who actually showed his teeth, but in a very happy way.
David soon realized that the puppy he fell in love with was actually smiling. He knew this puppy was for him and decided to call him "Smiles".
David and his mom brought Smiles home.
This is the first in a series of stories about David and his new puppy, "Smiles".
