About the Book

Park Guide, Sara Weston becomes embroiled in the life-long mystery that surrounds a notorious criminal who she knows personally, if not intimately after she is forced to guide him through torturous territory, over an impossible glacier exit and finally to freedom on the other side of the border. Their struggle for power and control and their relationship filled with clashes culminates in a final twist that sends the plot spinning into unexpected directions when Sara Weston runs into the FBI.

Enter FBI Agents, Jack Riley and Samuel R. Wilson who behave as opposites, one offering understanding and protection, the other supposition and a purposeful agenda. In response to all that has occurred, a shell-shocked Sara attempts to piece together what truly happened while accepting the patient hand of Agent Jack Riley. But something is very much a miss as she hears bits and pieces of the search for her criminal captor. He is beginning to dominate her sleeping hours as well as her waking.

Returning to the sleepy little town of Anderson, Montana where family and friends wait for her should have made it all better. But it merely tightens the invisible wire that threatens to choke Sara as she stumbles around her home town landscape until, out-of-nowhere, she learns a piece of truth that changes everything. Her criminal captor, Rob Craven, with his unusual gamey habits, actually resided in her home town for many months before she ran into him. And did he know of her? The contemptuous truth points to the fact that he did as Sara proclaims with venom that now...she knows him!

But does she? Just as the weather changes and the mountains mysteriously shift before the eye lending the reader a different perspective, you will wonder about much of it until you are plunged into a flashback. Rob Craven is suddenly alive, only fourteen years old and not nearly as crafty as he was. It is a fascinating look at the past where the words prophecy and philosophy appear to take Rob down a pulsating road realizing his destiny, a ride with a group of bank-robbers becoming a favorite in the media.

Plunging back to the shaky present, Sara, though armed to the teeth continues to suffer until Jack Riley brings in criminal psychologist, Vera Ray. What is truly under Sara's Weston's nightmares may surprise you and what resolute profiler, Vera Ray does with it will surprise you even more as the truth emerges in the form of a ticking time bomb that can never be revealed to Miss Weston.

In the Shadow of Time is a wild ride through beautiful landscapes, brimming emotions and haunting, shifting pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. What begins as an adventurous, pulse-pounding story of determination and survival gradually submerges into a mysterious core where unforgettable characters franticly search for the keys to a mystery in the form of a killer's profile. Then, once again, out of nowhere, Jack Riley witnesses a peculiar conversation with an apprehended gang member who appears to possess a strange form of truth. Is Jack Riley now in possession of an irony that no one can see Or... Is there a bigger twist to the story that Miss Weston fell into the middle of where her own destiny stands... in the shadow of time.

About the Author

"I was raised in Kansas but I spent a good chunk of my adult life living in Illinois and traveling. One summer, in between classes, I decided to take a vacation to The Northwest. Though I have been on many vacations, pieces of this one always stuck in my mind and later those pieces became the fabric for a complex tale about ordinary people caught up in an extra-ordinary drama.

I spent my career writing instructions and technical pieces of material but one day while filling the sink with dishes and getting my daughter to sleep, I began to imagine a piece of fiction.

Later, much later I put that piece of fiction into a little mail order series about a park guide in Montana and a strange criminal. That little series, originally titled, Captor was quite popular so it evolved into my first novel... In the Shadow of time.

People love to ask me questions about the story. One of my Kansas readers described it as a story to think about, talk about and follow. That's exactly how it caught on."

Kaye March, a retired educator and school principal lives in Lenexa, Kansas with her daughter. She is writing her second novel, the sequel her audience has been waiting for.
