About the Book

Tupela Go Wokabout is the second book by Gerri Parsons. Her first book, Sawdust In My Gotches was a story about her work. Tupela Go Wokabout is a story about some of her many travels besides work. It covers some of the many trips made by her and her husband, Charlie. It covers their trip across Canada by train, their trip to Haiti, China, Cuba, Australia and New Zealand as well as their trip to Buffalo, NY for Gerri's 50th School Reunion and their trip to Winnipeg, MB in a 1-ton truck. Tupela Go Wokabout is not your usual travel book that tells you where to go and what to see. It is a brief personal story written in a natural way.

Excerpts

There was no camping on the beach; so we asked a local man where we could stay. He told us "Right through that gate." It was a terrific place. There were hot showers, where we just put a quarter in the slot, turned on the tap and enjoyed a wonderful, warm shower from the ot springs. No more hassle about trying to get the water right. No more hot this moment and cold the next. In the cook kitchen, there was a stove and sink for everyone, tables, toasters, a machine for hot water (boiling) and other necessities. There was also a laundry room with washers and driers. Soap was provided. There were campsites for 115 campers. The campsites were $7 each, which I thought was good.

The next day we went down to the beach, where we dug a hole in the sand and let it fill up with ocean water. Then we lay out in the nice, warm hot-spring water until it got too hot, at which time we got out and waited for the hole to fill up again with cooler ocean water. Some times we could stay longer than other times. It depended on how long it took for the ocean water to come into the hole. If we stayed in too long, we could get burned. There were lots of holes that had been dug into the sand. We also found a cave on this beach, which, of course, we had to explore.

Wednesday: We had the pleasure of going to see the Albert Switzer Hospital. It was a unique hospital with all the modern equipm
