About the Author

Evett L. Simmons is a native of Fernandina Beach, Florida. She graduated from Florida Southern College located in Lakeland, FL in 1975 with two majors, one of which was English. She went on to law school at Mercer University in Macon, GA and has been a lawyer since 1982. She has an honorary doctor of laws degree from Suffolk University, in Boston, MA. She is a partner in the Florida based law firm of Ruden, McClosky. Ms. Simmons has done a considerable amount of public speaking and has written articles for several publications. She has held a number of leadership positions including the presidency of the National Bar Association and Chair of the American Bar Association Council on Diversity. In addition to practicing law, she is president of Unity Property Development Corporation, Inc., a small successful real estate development corporation.
