About the Book

This is a thirty year plus collection of crossword answers from a crossword nut who works at least two a day. There are over 450,000 words and phrases that were collected from sticky notes (adversaria) and notations (marginalia) on the margins of the reference books that I have used over the years. I realized early on that the same answers, with minor differences or adjectives, were used over and over by crossword authors, some quite often, some only once in awhile. The compiling of these notes was brought on by the deterioration, from use, of my main reference book and not being able to find a suitable replacement. After getting them compiled, I realized that since they are so much help to me, then they will be of help to all crossword workers, from the ones just starting, to the old hands. They contain the answers to the questions that appear daily, to the ones that come up every three to five years. They include not just English words but all the other languages used in crosswords, peoples names, places, rivers, cities and all other items found in crosswords.
