About the Author

Ted Beare played a variety of sports while growing up in Brantford but soon realized that his limited athletic ability would not take him far on the field or in the arena. Always interested in journalism, he decided to combine his sports background and writing skills into a career.

He joined the Brantford Expositor newroom in 1950 as a general news reporter and assistant to the sports editor. In 1953 he was appointed sports editor and served in that capacity until his retirement in 1992.

During those years, writing a daily column, he was witness to almost every major sports event in Brantford and area. He won four Western Ontario Newspaper Association awards and was a runner-up on two other occasions. Since retirement, he has continued to write, freelance, for newspapers and magazines.
