About the Book

This book is a complation of "conversations" mostly between Jesus and other protagonists in the Gospels. These stem from my "what if" approach concerning what actually did these people talk about during their first encounters. During the course of the conversations, a little of my own beliefs that I have developed over the years are presented.

These beliefs are centered in the message that Jesus espoused. There are some "surprises" expressed or subliminally referred to during the course of the encounters. These may or may not have happened in actuality. They just add some thought provoking moments for the reader.

The aim of the book is to make Jesus' story connect with the people of today - in a way that is not encased in the typical scriptural language. The language of time may change but the message of Jesus remains timeless.

About the Author

G. Lawrence Smith is a lifelong student of the New Testament. He possesses no scholastic degree of expertise but has a deep love for the man called Jesus. For the past seven years, he has written the script for his parish's annual presentation of the Passion Play. As a result , he used the wealth of information that he has researched to write this book about the life of Christ.

Mr. Smith was born and raised in Pottsville, Pennsylvania - the birthplace of John O'Hara. He currently resides nearby in the town of Llewellyn, with his wife Lee Ann. They share seven children between them and are proud grandparents of six. This is his first literary work.

Excerpts

1. (From" Introduction")

"...every practicing Christian has the right to tell his/her own story. Jesus pretty much told us that, when he told us to go out into the world and proclaim the good news. This is what he meant. This is what HE expected.

"...we don't want to showcase what we deeply believe, if we can avoid it. the sad thing about this is that we in America have been doing this for so long that nobody takes our Christianity very seriously anymore."

2. (From" Meeting With the Baptist")

"On a hillside he preached. Along the shore of the sea he taught. In the village synagoges he prayed. Along the highways he healed. in the temple he admonished. Always teaching the Truth. Not the truth that would satisfy momentarily, but the truth that would satiate forever."

3. (From "Conversations with Mary, His Mother")

"I guess, Mary continues , "that sometimes we need to know how much we love God as much as He needs to know it ... It is hard to continue loving , if we don't know why... That is how we test our own love from time to time. We ned to know that we are doing it right."

4. (From "Meeting in the Desert")

(The Devil said) ... Humanity - this limited creation of God. It suffers from so much self-destruction and lost opportunites for greatness. Every once in a great moment some sparkle of brillance escapes through its morass of failed attempts."

5. (From "The Woman At The Well")

(The Women said) ... "the only kind of justice that is successful, calls for having power and money. Justice only trickles down to people like me, when all the rich and powerful have their fill of it. Then they take the time to think about some of us."

6. (From "The Resurrection")

Old Simeon told her so: " Your son is a son of contradiction."
