About the Author

Patrick T. Byrne has more than 20 years' experience in the investment management and advisory business. In his present position he serves as Chief Investment Officer for a sizeable independent Registered Investment Advisor. While employed at USAA Investment Management Company he was responsible for sales distribution of mutual funds, fund wrap, and separate account investments. At USAA Investment Management Co. he developed a capital markets research program used to advise clients. Prior to joining USAA Investment Management Co., Mr. Byrne headed Neuberger Berman's business that manages portfolios of mutual fund holdings for institutions and retail investors. he helped launch the business and managed the fund wrap portfolios from 1996 through 2001. He served as a member of the Advisory Services Investment Policy committee chaired by the firm's chief investment officer. He designed Neuberger Berman's fund wrap asset allocation software application that established portfolio guidelines for construction and recommended tactical investment strategies. He also wrote the quarterly market commentary report.

Mr. Byrne has been a guest speaker on managing mutual fund money at various seminars, conferences and radio shows. He served as practicing editor for the College for Financial Planning's Chartered Mutual Fund Counselor program. He has co-written articles on asset allocation for several financial magazines such as Money magazine.

Mr. Byrne studied economics at the University of New Hampshire, and graduated with honors from Baruch College with a B.B.A. degree in finance. He earned an M.B.A. from the University of Connecticut. He is a Certified Financial Planner, and is a Level II Chartered Financial Analyst Program candidate.

He is married, has three children, and lives in Fairfield, Connecticut.
