About the Book

The first words I heard the Lord speak in my inner heart and spirit on the retreat were, "I know you can't think, reason, or love, but lean on me; I can do all things" For the first time in months I felt at peace. my mind which had been spinning out of control came to rest.

The first chapter, "Desperation Street" shows how God loves us even when we can't love ourselves. The beginnings of our infant steps, as we learned to walk with Jesus.

How his teachings filled with gentle loving kindness met us in our everyday needs. ~The lessons so simple and clear, that we could understand them.

My prayer for the first year of our walk, always began; "forgive me Lord if I am praying wrong, I don't know any other way."

With no one to guide us, he taught us to read and study his word, most of the time teaching with one or two versus of scripture at a time. Sometimes going over those same verses for weeks before understanding would come. He taught us not only to read his Word, but to find our answers in its pages, that it was alive and living not just words in a page of a book.

Teaching spiritual truths from a Christmas tree, eggs and everyday mundane things in our lives. Showing each of us, he was the God of our every day miracles.

As you read this, and see in our lives how God taught us about His, I pray that God's love will bless you, and that you would hunger to know more of him.

Excerpts

He showed me that sometimes I read with my eyes alone and my spiritual eyes had not been opened to me. The lessons were not always a Bible depth in teaching; sometimes a word, or a personal lesson about my own life experiences. Within me, He who is love had planted a seed, one that continues to grow day by day, a seed of hunger for His word and to understand His lessons.

The wonderful part seemed to be right where I was, He wanted me to bloom. in my role as a housewife and mother, He taught me His lessons. It was never go do, so much as be still and listen. His kind, loving gentleness began to teach like a tutor, causing me to think and understand.

When we didn't have any money and things were really bad, He taught me that He was our total supply. When one of us was sick, He was our healing. When we were in sorrow, He was our comfort and so on; and always the lessons of His praise somehow mixed in.

We were made to praise the Lord, it was not just words, but His power and might that fills our praise as we learn to praise Him in things we don't understand, do not like, and are hurt by. In all things, God has allowed them to be for our good, and if we learn to praise in all things...

*****

Then the thought, What happens to the tree when the colours are changing? I thought, I think it's a kind of dying. Yes, but what else? By this time I had pulled over to look at the red in the tree a little closer. I sat there for a little while praying in the presence of the Lord.

The revelation came. This tree was completely beautiful because it had completely died to itself and what was now visible was God's glory upon it. This spirituality, is what would happen as we learn to surrender ourselves to Him, the beauty others might see in us would be God's image upon us.

The season changed, winter came and all the trees lost their leaves. looking out my window, I felt something in me was dying, that close walk seemed so far away. I wondered, was it ever true that I heard his inner voice clearly within me?

Then the thought came, are the trees dead? No, I thought, just dormant; they will become alive again in the spring. And again, why? Because they are being supported by a root system deep within.

Inwardly I knew there were going to be times of winter experiences of the spirit, even though I would not feel his presence, his spiritual root system would always be there supporting me. Those would be faith building times.
