About the Book
Full of rich images and gentle souls, Belinda's Journey, is a timeless tale about a community of fairies whose lives are entwined with the world of nature in which they exist, and with the Big Ones - humans - with whom they share the earth. Belinda is a fairy child whose mother has been chosen to create a wedding gift for Leila, the daughter of the Fairy Queen. But, prenuptial joy turns to fear as a mysterious illness threatens the life of Moss, the young fairy groom. Belinda with her sister and tehir friends, must find the cause and a way to heal the ailing Moss.
The tale begins with Belinda carefully gathering yellow and orange petals for use in her mother's creation, a equisite quilt made from flowers and woven together with the silkem thread of spiders. When mom divulges the secret purpose for the quilt, Belinda is thrilled to share the news with her older sister, Adelle, who lives and apprentices with Sienna, the Medicine Woman. As mother and daughters travel to attend the long awaited wedding, we discover the reverance of the fairies toward the earth, particularly for their sacred trees.
It is the Big Ones' blatant disregard for nature which, the fairies learn , has caused Moss to fall ill, but hope is discovered in Hope, a human child who wants to help. Ultimatley each character draws on her own strengths to find a solution, and together, the circle of friends and fairies bring forth healing and happiness.
Author Susan Stockamn weaves wisdom and promise into this story for all ages, and Yakima Bokoles captures its magic in her touching, detailed illustrations. The fairies realm found within gives the heart wings to fly.
