About the Book

P'ang Lung and the Pearl is a story within a story. Ten-year-old twins Philip and Andrea live with their parents and wonderful grandmother Chan from 'the old country'. Grandmother weaves her teaching magic not by scolding but by her exciting tales from the long ago past. Personally, I think clever Grandmother makes it up as she goes along. 'Once upon a time' can be a thousand years ago or last Tuesday.

P'ang Lung is a fierce old water dragon who needs a vacation. He works a 24-hour shift and has never seen the sun. He has a great title and job description; he is 'Keeper of the King's Treasure', and gets to scare the daylights out of any living creature who swims too close to the treasure. After a thousand years or more of duty, P'ang Lung can really use some serious R & R'.
