About the Book Mother and daughter team up for this collection of poetry. Different styles, different voices call up moments from the everyday world of women. Marlys Oliver has been writing close to 60 years. Poetry has been part of her life since her first poem was published in the National College Anthology. She has edited several weekly newpapers, written for local and national magazines, taught poetry writing in the schools and served as judge for local writing contests. Stephanie McNamara brings her love of science and blends it with her poetry. Some of her favorite memories involve poetry writing weekends with her mom. Stephanie's poetry was published in literary magazines. Government and family dominates both of their lives. Marlys served as city clerk and mayor for her city. She also has been a member of many government commissions. Stephanie is adminstrator and wetland specialist for a watershed organization in Minnesota. She has been active in her local League of Women Voters. She is waiting for one of her three daughters to pick up the poety torch.

About the Author Marlys Benner Oliver and Stephanie Oliver McNamara are mother daughter. Besides the blood bond, the two share a love of poetry. A number of years ago, the pair rented a tent trailer and headed to northern Minnesota for a week-long poetry session held by thhe University of Minnesota. A few of the poems stem from that time, but others go back farther to when each was in college. Marlys had a poem published in the National College Anthology. Stephanie had several poems in Literary Magazines at St. Cloud State University. You will notice a scientific bent in Stephanie's poetry. Her graduate and undergraduate degrees were in biology and environmental education. She heads up a water management organization now. Her family includes her husband, Bill and three daughters, two in college and one supporting herself with her nursing degree. Family, gardening, her watershed work and the League of Women Voters remain abiding interests. Marlys counted 51 years of marriage to Fred that produced a son and daughter. During those years, many happenings provided fodder for her poetry including editing several weekly newspapers, serving as mayor of Birchwood Village and teaching writing and poetry. She judged a poetry contest for many years sponsored by the White Bear Lake Arts Council. She also hosted a cable televisions show which highlighted local orgainizations.
