The book, cc.60,000 words, contains 18 chapters of narrative with an additional 15 pages of supporting detailed notes and references for the critical scholar. Following the narrative is an explanatory Epilogue which brings this tale of the Old Testament into the full light of the Modern Day.

It is a riveting tale of cruelty, arrogance and voluptuous passion seeking to annihilate goodness and simple courage and faith in the two opposing characters of the Queen and the prophet. As an exciting drama of war and peace, at all levels, it becomes a book that, once started, is hard to put down. It is also the story of the man Elijah, a living and breathing person, growing marvellously in human and spiritual stature as the great drama develops. The action opens with Elijah challenging the whole Court of King Ahab and Queen Jezebel. His subsequent flight, his victory on Mount Carmel, his flight again - this time to Sinai and the Still, Small Voice - are followed by the savage battles fought between Israel and Syria.

About the Author

Barbara Fleming was born in Croydon (England), educated at St. Anne's College Sanderstead, and gained an Honours Degree at University College, London in 1944. She was involved in the higher reaches of Post-war Planning in England and Wales, taught Geography and History, and later worked as Custodian in two stately homes. She also ran the local Sunday School for nearly twenty years.

Now a grand-mother of six, she lives in Sussex, where she has become a successful author of local history and religous books and, as she says, is still involved in the endlessly exciting study of the Bible and its impact on all our lives.
