About the Book

This book is pure fiction. Is was to be nothing more than a method the author used to take up his time while recuperating from a heart attack. As time went on, however, the author found he enjoyed the writing of the book, and, not wanting to trash it, decided to have it published. It incorporates his experience as a Merchant Marine Captain on Lake Superior, his joy in playing poker in Vegas and an adventurous lifestyle. Growing up in Michigan's Upper Peninsula was a unique experience, and having been the only person alive born in Seney, Michigan (pop. 125 or thereabouts!), allowed him to speak with experience about the area. The book covers 60 years, ending with a suggestion of how to get rid of all the terrorists in the world. Fiction? Yes! Possible? You be the judge!

About the Author

Robert Morrison holds two degrees in Mathematics. He taught school for 26 years in Munising, Michigan, retiring in 1985. At the same time he was CEO of Pictured Rocks Cruises, Inc., a Michigan Corporation running tourists to the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. In 1996 he bid for and received the concession to provide transportation to Grand Island National Recreation Area and retired from Pictured Rocks Cruises, Inc. In 2003 he retired from the Grand Island Ferry Service and suffered a major heart attack. Not being one to sit around, he began writing shortly thereafter. He now has several books sitting in his computer!

Excerpts

Eric Tanner stood in the pilot house of his vessel "Sea Princess" and looked around with awe. Never in his wildest dreams would he have thought he would be captain of such a ship. His fi rst mate, Cecil Hardwick, was standing at his side. Eric looked over at the confi dent expression on the rugged features of the blond Englishman. He wished he felt as confi dent as Cecil looked. Cecil was just under his own height of 6 foot three. Little did Cecil know that he had a 16 year old boy as captain. Eric remembered the events of the past six months that led to the present situation. He shook his head in wonder once again.

Jayne Rice opened her mail with glee. She knew the letter from her publisher would confi rm the transfer of funds to her bank account in Escanaba, Michigan. It was the final payment for her latest novel, Midnight 'Til Dawn. The novel was another best seller. That made 10 in a row. The first of her Midnight novels was a good seller, but it didn't come close to being a best seller. It did, however, give her enough money to continue her writing career. She kissed the letter, smiled and went to the kitchen for another cup of coffee. She strolled out onto the deck of her home.

There followed many pages of text describing the building of the lodge. It was not known yet as lodge 16, for Eric evidently didn't know how many people would eventually be invited to participate in his plans for a lodge. He only knew the lodge would be a haven for heroes of the past war. He only knew he wanted to do something for those men who gave so much of themselves. Jayne was not interested in the particulars of the construction. It was sufficient for her to know that it was built and completed in the fall of 1945.
