About the Book
While living in Hawaii, two generations share the beauty and serendipity of an early evening walk through their tropical neighborhood. Revealing that reality can be magical, this book shows the moments of discovery possible, as Kevie and Nana experience truly wondrous events, as they become sunset chasers and more.
About the Author
A Charles Dickens' novel describes my life: "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...." Living a block away from the main library made my natural quest for knowledge a reality of great expectations, as did the Butler Institute of American Art, located nearby, where I was a frequent visitor. Grinding poverty could have made for a bleak house, but the love of our family helped overcome much adversity.
Through a series of serendipitous experiences, I came to the realization that there is a Divine Being, with a sense of humor, guiding my life. Born in Ohio, but living in various states, such as New York, Arizona, California, and Florida, I have an appreciation for the beauty and diversity of the landscape and the people of North America. As an older "Baby Boomer" with a husband who's been my mate for 40 years, and 2 grown children, Katie and David (who illustrated this book), it's been quite a journey.
But when my daughter and her husband asked me to move to Hawaii to help raise my one and only grandchild whom she was about to deliver in early 1995, my life entered a realm Dickens could never have imagined. With my grandson, Kevie Keanu, as my sidekick for over 3 years, I enjoyed the daily adventures in paradise, some written about in this book. Kevie Keanu added a new color to the rainbow of my life; Hawaii was the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. (Elizabeth Streb Parks is also the author of another Trafford book, the true story titled, MY DAD WAS SO MEAN: A Memoir Of One Of The World's Oldest Baby Boomers.)
