About the Book

In this humorous children's poem about growing up, by Patricia Rebollar, we meet Lil Albert the Dinosaur, creatively sketched by Jodi Peterson. Albert seems to dawdle everywhere; even on walks with Daddy. When Mom urges Big Sis and her friend Amanda to bring Albert out to play with them, they whine:

"Do we hafta? Albert is awfully slow. When he tries to tag along, there's no place we can go."

His friends are prodding him to hurry up too, but Mom knows that Albert will eventually outgrow his dawdling.

Then one day it happened!

"Something came as quite a surprise! Little Albert sprouted up right before their eyes!"

It certainly seems like growth and maturity happens overnight, although we know it doesn't. Follow Lilly, the Ladybug, across the pages of the book as she leads the reader to the moral of the story, contained in the last two pages:

"Dawdling won't last forever, And have patience in the end!"

Albert Lag Behind also applies to older children as they develop patience in learning a new skill such as playing a game or reading. Aren't we all a little like Albert?
