About the Book

This book is based on my life as a young girl growing up, my family, how I met my late husband and the life we shared together. I was born in the beautiful tropical Caribbean country of Jamaica some many years ago in the peak of hurricane Charlie.

Some of you may have heard about hurricanes, well this isn't anything new in the tropical countries, it is known to be of strong forceful wind and rain that sometimes destroyed more than one can even dare to consider.

Going back to the time that I was born in this storm, I was told much later that the rain poured, the wind blew so hard that the trees lost their branches, the animals suffered a great deal but I survived the hurricane of the century.

Growing up, being the seventh sibling in the family or one should say the "Baby" in the family, I was the center of attraction. I was a little spoiled but at the same time I never seemed to get away without being disciplined for any wrong doings. As I recall, growing up was very hard. We were brought up in an average family environment, we didn't take things for granted. With so many siblings, we cherished all the hand-me-down clothes; thank God I had more sisters than brothers.

About the Author

I came to know Curdell through working in the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research Office, over a period of four years. During that time Curdell shared with me her sense of humor, her kindness and her struggle with the illness and passing of her husband Mr. Rudy Mayers. Rudy was a lovely man, kind and fun loving. I met Rudy when he was seriously ill with heart disease, at a time when he retained his sense of humor and his obvious devotion to Curdell - that never changed

When Curdell asked me to edit her book I was pleased to offer my assistance. Going through the drafts was a long journey into Curdell's history and a glimpse of her marriage and family. It was a privilege rather than a task. I believe that her writing has been a very healthy way for Curdell to capture their memories and dreams in a unique way that makes her life with Rudy more accessible to family and friends.

Our memories and family histories are precious things that are often left behind as they years roll by. The gift of memories and dreams that Curdell has provided for their family is a rare and lovely thing that we rarely see in our society today.

The partnership of Curdell and Rudy is a wonderful human success story - relationships are like oceans full of uncharted reefs - I think that Rudy had a good Navigator.... called Curdell.

Thank you for your story Curdell and for your friendship.

Andy
