About the Book
"Starting with an autobiographical introduction about her spiritual search, the author charts a course of 'living the mystery' through some astonishing wake-up events. She became a healer and deliverer from dark forces by groping her way along, reluctantly at best. Thus she learned to trust that God would always come through - often in the zero hour - and her continually surprising faith began to take over her life. She says 'Each new healing or deliverance experience has become an unfolding series of revelations - the startling fun is in the newness, the unpredictability, the Who? Me?, the outrageous grace!'
"Halfway through, she discovered she was no longer writing, but was becoming a channel for God. Sometimes Jesus, sometimes Holy Spirit, the writings are practical, common-sense guidance. Joking, probing, uplifting, course-correcting- God says it all in three dozen clear pages - how He can be found, though we struggle as if through broken glass in the dark, hands-and-knees crawl.
"Retired Mennonite pastor Dr. Clayton Swartzentruber said, 'i picked up your book again last night and read half thru. i could not lay it down. a combination of journal, stories, testimonials, miracles and pure friendship...good."
About the Author
Contemplative, mother and grandmother, spiritual director, psychotherapist, kayaker, walker, in that order - this reluctant healer has journeyed far into the bowels of the earth to discover the God of her understanding. She fell into Alanon as her daughter's addiction blossomed, beginning to learn the fine art of detachment--powerful tool.
"Her brother's and niece's suicides in 1983 began a period of deep reflection and change. She worked in a factory to support her children and put herself through her last 10 courses of college in night school, then graduate school for psychotherapy Masters' work. She worked in addictions for three years, then went into private practice. The hard-core addicts and prostitutes, murderers, thieves, and abuse victims she worked with in rehab taught her volumes about the human condition. 'They were my real teachers. I hope they got something out of it, but that's really up to them to say.'
"God began to seem like the only leg-up out of her own depression and despair, and the lives of countless others she was working with. 'There simply was no other hope,' she surmised. 'Either God is on the job, or we're all in deep doo-doo!'"
"One healing incident was particularly powerful, and many minor miracles, sightings of God in a warm glowing light with certain clients in her practice, kept her seeking God's healing. Deliverance ministry, which continues via house blessings and subtle deliverance of dark force energies in her chakra balancing work, continues to astonish her with their healing power. 'It's not me, she often reminds herself - how amazing that God could work through the sorry likes of us humans!"
"Finding God as the All in all has made sense out of the insensible, has made the depth of the dark night a great gift to those who dare its perilous pain and emptiness. Finally - it's fun - and well worth the journey."
"With Matthew Fox of Creation Spirituality fame, I believe that my dog is my spiritual director - loving, always present, fun, fleet of foot, wise, good-spirited! He's teaching me how to be human."
