About the Book

Malcolm is a story about a little mouse who lives with his parents in a hole in the fence. Malcolm ventures out looking for new friends, going further and further away from home. He meets Birdie and Monty, the Monarch caterpillar. He meets Hoppity, the bunny, and Froggie. After each adventure, Malcolm goes home to the hole in the fence to share his day with his mama. He realizes he can't do many of the things his new friends can do, like fly, become a butterfly, hop or swim, and he wonders what is special about him. Malcolm's mama reassures him that everyone has different gifts that they bring to the world. She tells him that she thinks his gift of a happy spirit is the best of all because he brings joy to everyone he meets.
