About the Book

Food has been a source of comfort and nurturing. We need to preserve the tastes of our childhoods. To replicate the flavors takes guidance and experience.

The book contains more than a collection of recipes. It has hints, tips, and stories of interest for the novice cook and the experienced. The glossary helps teach techniques and explain reactions. The Index of Ingredients helps find other recipes that will use the capers leftover from the vinaigrette.

It has been designed to remain open when placed on the counter. The false spine allows the reader to find it on the shelf. This book is the first of a series.

About the Author

Margretta Schleich was taught to cook by her mother from the time she could roll cookie dough into balls. Wondering why some dishes tasted better than others, she began her quest to prepare and create recipes. To organize the collection, she taught herself to use a computer. Comments and questions from family led to the series of cookbooks to pass on over 50 years of experience and knowledge to the generations to come.

Gretta has been a life-long resident of California with strong family ties to the Midwest. She graduated with a Master's degree in Social Work from California State University, Fresno. She received her license in Clinical Social Work (LCSW). After a long career providing assistance and guidance to abused and neglected children and their families, she retired a began a second career writing.

She lives in the San Joaquin Valley with her husband Ralph. Nearby are their daughters and grandchildren.
