About the Author

Capt. Fred Everson was born into a family of New Jersey "clamdiggers" on the shores of the Raritan Bay. He grew up catching bait and digging worms with his grandfather, crabbing and eeling -- living a childhood that Tom Sawyer might envy.

After graduating high school, Capt. Fred did a four year hitch in the U.S. Navy, followed by two years at Brookdale Community College where he honed his writing and photography skills. In 1979 he sold his first story to New Jersey Outdoors. In 1986 he joined the Outdoor Writer's Association of America.

Capt. Fred currently writes for a number of newspapers and magazines. Fish the Flats is his third book after Catch Snook! and A Bar Player's Guide to Winning Darts.
