About the Author
![]()
At age 40 I was knocked flat by a serious case of Polio and spent eight months in hospital.
The next six years were spent with crutches and leg braces doing therapy and studying.
I went from being a school dropout to graduation with a BA from UBC, then a year of teacher training.
The following years found me teaching secondary school; commercial fishing; renovating two rundown houses; designing and building my own home; creating a self-sufficient five-acre farm; doing my own gardening, wood cutting, land-clearing, and fencing, all on crutches or sitting down.
I learned to ride a horse, drive a car and swim all for the second time, along with canoeing with nearly disastrous results. Then learned to fly sailplanes and small airplanes.
Travels took me to Western Europe, Israel,. Mindanao in the Philippines, Hong Kong, China, Macau, Croatia, the Caribbean Islands and two years in Honduras, where at age 68, I met and married my Chinese wife.
I have finished traveling and am now in a condominium on the small town of Sidney on Vancouver Island, British Columbia; and have spent the last years of my second reading, writing books and cat-napping in a reclining chair.
Reader Comments
"Still enjoying both your books.....starting to read them for a second time!"-R & P Van der Meyden
********** "Peter has already read your book-had to make him come to bed at 2am!"
-Carolyn & Peter Flanagan
********** "You are to be admired and an example to so many who give up when something sets them back. Your accomplishments would have been a job without a handicap. As I read each page I think how much extra effort you needed to do everything you did. Congratulations!"
-Tom Mesich
********** "I puzzle over your writing, Peter. What makes it so appealing? I think it appeals very much like the appeal of Robinson Crusoe. The clear images, the precise detail makes the reader feel part of the adventure. Well you must have a rather big load of us in your canoe! And pictures are a great addition."
-Jean Webber
