About the Book

In A Day At The Gate, Ed Nowak invites his readers to take a look at a horse show through the eyes of a paddock master. He reveals to his readers what it is really like to stand at the in-gate of a horse show for 12 hours in the blazing sun or freezing cold with a clipboard and a radio, and he does it with this own unique sense of humor and wit. Complete with nearly 50 cartoons and illustrations, he exposes not only the horse show participants, but everyone that might be on the grounds. Trainers, judges, parents, spectators, show managers, course designers and jump crew, do not escape unscathed. If you have ever shown a horse, trained one, paid for one, or have ever been to a horse show, you will probably recognize yourself in, A Day At The Gate.

About the Author

Ed Nowak has spent 15 years working in-gates at horse shows in the Northeast. His son, Jeff, rode hunters, jumpers and equitation for eight years, which introduced Ed to the wonderful, wacky and ofttimes whimsical world of horse shows. He also works as the ringmaster at many of he medal finals in and around New England. For 15 years Ed played polo and currently breeds and races Standardbreds. When not at a horse show or the race track, he owns and operates an advertising and public relations agency in Provicence, RI.
