About the Book

This is a delightful story about Lily, a beautiful but proud head of lettuce in Poughkeepsie. Like the rest of her vegetable friends, she is happy to have been selected by the best farm store, Adams. But, at the store, she does not want customers to touch her lovely verdant gown. Nor is she willing to be sold for one dollar. She thinks her beauty makes her worth $100. Nobody is willing to pay that much for a head of lettuce. At the end of the day, Lily is thrown out to the compost field. There she cries and cries for days and weeks. She is very sorry for how she behaved. Finally, the sun has pity on her and blesses her with 100 little lettuce heads who make Lily's dream come true and fetch $100 in all at Adams Fairacers Farm Market.
