About the Author
Andy Thomas (34) originally trained in graphic design but his largely self-taught animation skills landed him a job in 1995 with Honeycomb Animation Studios. This position gave him the opportunity to work through all areas of the animation process from inbetweener to line tester, storyboard artist to background designer, and eventually key animator and layout artist. Having worked on animated series for television such as ITV's Wolves, Witches and Giants, Channel 4's Pond Life as well as animating for the Disney Channel, and on projects for European animation houses he now designs characters for The Canning Factory animation studio in London as well as developing his own characters and ideas. As a result of his experience in animation, mixed with his background in graphic design, Andy's illustration style uses bold graphic line and flat blocks of colour and often depicts characters in a sequence of poses to convey movement and metamorphosis. In 2003 Andy collaborated with author Beverley Littlewood on a project based around one of his own characters – Sally Anna Pram. The resulting book Swim Sally Swim! won first prize in the 2003 Trafford Publishing (UK) competition.
Bev Littlewood moved from England to Italy in 1985 where she is now a full-time secondary school teacher, language consultant and textbook writer for Macmillan ELT. She is a teacher trainer at the University of Venice preparing and delivering numerous educational and literary seminars throughout Italy, in particular with the British Council. Bev is actively involved in creative writing courses and pre-production projects for local film companies. For the millennium she worked as commissioning editor and co-ordinator for the UK on a pan-European funded technology project about World War II, which was developed in collaboration with film companies from six European countries. Bev has been shortlisted in British story competitions (both adult and children's) and has achieved publication in an anthology of winners. As well as sharing first prize with illustrator Andrew Thomas for 'the best children's book section' in the 2003 Trafford Publishing (UK) competition, she was also longlisted in the Fish 2004 Unpublished Novel Award.
