About the Book
A typesetter at a Toronto Printing company, the Saturday Night Press, finally joins the army at age 30 leaving a wife and 3 children, to fight for his country. Most of his local buddies and brothers-in-law are already enlisted and from their letters to him, he realizes that being a conscientious objector to killing, won't solve the problems of the war.
About the Author
Jean Pollock is a graduate of the Commercial Arts Course at Danforth Technical School, Toronto. After raising her two daughters, she decided to get back to painting again. Proficient in oils and acrylics, she has also enjoyed working in watercolours for the past few years. Under her father's guidance, Jean developed a love of interpreting the outdoors through her paintings. As a young girl, she painted in the areas surrounding their family cottage near Frenchman's Bay on Lake Ontario and her home on Crown Park in the Balmy Beach area of Toronto. Her mother, Flora was a great influence on Jean and encouraged her to read everything and study history, whether it was about the world, Art or family. Jean feels that a firm hold on the past allows us to understand the present and gives us hope for the future. Jean now lives with her husband, Ted, and paints in the areas of Peterborough and the Kawartha Lakes.
