About the Book

Alexander's Adventures in Venice is the first in a series of family-oriented children's books about an adorable, fluffy black-and-white cat named Alexander. Alexander loves to travel with his human "sister" Rachel Elizabeth and her family and is waiting to be found somewhere in the beautiful, full-color photographs of Venice that illustrate his adventures and are on every page of the book.

Alexander is a good-natured cat and has learned that if he is willing to ride in Rachel Elizabeth's backpack, he gets to go to fun places, instead of being left at home alone. In this book, the family travels to Venice, Italy and Alexander gets to go for vaporetta rides on the Grand Canal, chase pigeons in St Mark's Square and enjoy the car-free streets of Venice. His main adventure arises from the desire to ride on the long, sleek, black gondola with shiny red seats and fancy pillows. Even after Gregory, Rachel Elizabeth's brother tells him that they are just for silly people in love.

In addition to being a basic travelogue of Venice with beautiful, full-color photographs of the major sights of Venice, the book also introduces basic conversational Italian, complete with phonetic spellings.

About the Author

The concept of a series of books involving Alexander and his adventures, at home and abroad, was a way to combine all three.
