About the Book
If you wanted to hide among the seashells
Or dart up and jiggle the jelly bells
And then dance about the seaweed shoots
With little sea princesses in cowboy boots
What kind of wee animal of the sea
Would you really really like to be
Why a seahorse of course!
About the Author
Many years ago, during my university years, I was a lifeguard and park naturalist on Prince Edward Island. An assoicate was desperately looking for a children's poem to augment a slide talk. I sat down and wrote one for her in about 15 minutes. It went over very well and I immediately filed it away as someting to do in the future. Many years later, while sitting in a builder's showhome in Calgary, Alberta, before the current boom, I was bored so started writing children's poetry. Quite a few more years went by and I turned 50 without actually having children of my own. Some external forces decided to not let me get away with that so my wife and I have now adopted two very beautiful "special needs" little girls aged 6 and 7. My mother was a children's librarian and books were always important in my life. In the process of looking for books for our children I was struck by how much of what I was finding was not as good as the numerous poems at the back of my filing cabinet. I had often thought about finding someone to illustrate my poems but never seemed to have the time and incentive to actually do it. Times and incentives have changed so "A Seahorse of Course" is the first of what I hope to be many children's poems published for the enjoyment and education of children everywhere.
