About the Book

Billy blows a bubble gum bubble. If lifts him off his feet. He enjoys the experience of floating up like that. People try to grab his feet and keep him from going up too high. A fireman on a fire engine ladder tries to save him but he blows his bubble bigger. His friends call up to him "Go Billy! Go!" He rises higher and people become smaller. Even the fire engine looks as small as a dolly's bed. The wind blows him to the apartment buildings on Main Street. He rises past a balcony where an old lady is watering her plants. "Hi there", he says and feels dizzy at floor ten. The wind now whirls him around. His bubble bursts. Gum covers his hands and face. He calls for Mom as he begins to fall. He wakes up and Mom stands beside his bed. She cleans him, takes his gum and gets him clean jamees to wear. Then she tucks him in and Billy cuddles up with his One-Eyed-Bear.

About the Author

John was born, raised and educated in Holland during the Great Depression and the occupation of his homeland during World War II. A multilingual, avid traveller, he came to Canada as an indentured servant to work on a fruit farm. Demolition, construction, commercial fishing, theatre ushering, appliance sales, sous–cheffing, painting, car repair and landscaping helped him survive till he was able to return to his chosen profession: teaching. He obtained additional degrees and qualifications before retiring from a long and satisfying career so he could write full time. His life experiences influence his writing.
