About the Book
It's Not Sarah's Fault, is a children's "read to" picture book about sexual abuse. This book contains 1,194 words. The words, illustrations, and story line are not intimidating to the reader or to the audience. When reading my book, the child's imagination flows freely and the images remain fresh in their minds, from the beginning and to the end of the story. My use of sea creatures expresses the out-of-body experiences some sexually abused children may feel. The use of multi-racial characters let readers know that sexual abuse is a universal problem that expands beyond race, color, and religious backgrounds.
Since the books imagery is not intimidating to parents, educators, guardians, or children, the story ending leaves the child with a sense of empowerment in controlling their destiny.
About the Author
My name is Mona L. Golden. I am a mother of three wonderful children named Andrea, Andre, and Austin. I graduated from Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio, where I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology, with an interest in child abuse cases.
I worked for two years as an Ongoing Social Worker for the Cuyahoga County Department of Children and Family Services. This Cleveland based agency is involved with the protection and prevention of child abuse. In addition, I have worked in other areas within the Social Service industry for over 10 years.
I strongly believe in the protection of children and how the treatment of children affects society as a whole. This is my main reason for writing this book. What happens to children today will affect everyone in the future.
