About the Book

The Greek philosopher Plato declared, “Only the dead have seen the end of war,” and so far he has been proven correct. The history of mankind is a continuing story of wars and bloodshed. For just as often as men have gone to war in hopes that their children would not have to, those hopes have been dashed. Just as often as men have fought against tyranny and oppression, another tyrant has arisen. What is it about the human experience that makes us all prisoners to war’s long and persistent legacy? What is the cause of war? What is needed to obtain peace?

It is a consistent belief throughout Christianity that war is the result of sin, and that as long as mankind and sin coexist we will have war. But what does that mean? How does war fit into God’s plans? What is God’s perspective on war? What does God require? What should Christians be praying for, hoping for, and expecting to happen?

The Battle is the Lord’s looks at each of these questions and describes what scholars, theologians, and soldiers have learned through the centuries. It describes the causes of war, and the expectations for war in the 21st century. It describes the conditions when war is justified and the likelihood for peace in our time. Most importantly, it describes what God’s Word tells us about war, and about God’s promises and mankind’s hope for peace.
