About the Book
The free fall of both written and spoken American English prompted this writer to do something about it. This 35-page booklet is the result.
The number one culprit is the use of the subjective "I" after verbs and prepositions. This usage may be found everywhere: among the educated and non-educated; on the street and in the home; on television and in the movies; in newspapers and in magazines; in the office and even in the classroom. It may have started with the very popular but incorrect "between you and I." But this is only the tip of the iceberg. We hear and read "healthy" for "healthful"; "bring" for ''take''; "try and" for "try to"; "it's" for "its"; "aggravate" for "irritate"; "less" for "fewer"; and "anxious" for "eager"; and so on.
The contents of this work include: Words and Phrases to Be Avoided; Some of the Most Annoying Cliches; The Sentence, Cases, and Parts of Speech; Punctuation; Tenses and Moods; Capitalization; Numbers; Irregular Verbs; Troubling Similar Words; and Writing Tips. All in only 35 pages for quick reference!
Dr. Kenneth Cauthen, author of 18 books, has read this work and has written to this writer: "I think you produced what you claimed: short, to the point, humorous, surprisingly comprehensive, and easily followed. I think it could be useful for many people..."
I truly hope so.
