About the Book

For years the Osborns have relished the solitude of their home in the foothills adjacent to a uniquely beautiful parcel of land known as Meadow Mesa. Then the long-time owner of the Mesa tells them they will have a new neighbor * a developer.

The developer seems like a nice guy and goes out of his way to be neighborly. But is that his true character? The Osborns grant him some privileges and some problems result. Their lawyer tells them "Don*t worry about a thing, you*ve done everything right." Will the judge see it the same way? If he doesn*t, then will their home ever be the same again?

The developer is ready to start his new Meadow Mesa development. The project is the realization of his long term dream to create an upscale development so he rejects the very generous offers of a group of investors wanting to buy the land.

The investors however, desperately need the unique features of Meadow Mesa to bail out a project of their own. They remain very persistent in their efforts to convince the developer to sell. In the past, this group has proved to be quite successful in getting it*s way in controversial situations.

Then there is EnviroAid, an organization devoted to help citizens in dealing with environmental matters. Is the free service they provide in the too-good-to-be-true category?

As the developer's seemingly routine problems multiply, he becomes suspicious about the causes. The Osborns have obvious reasons to resent his efforts. Would they resort to taking such disruptive steps to prevent his development or are others involved?

Endangered Solitude is about Mike and Rusty Osborn's efforts to maintain their privacy and solitude in the face of attempts by others to control the fate of Meadow Mesa.

About the Author

Al was born in Iowa and grew up in a small town in central Illinois. After graduating from the University of Illinois with an engineering degree, he and his wife moved to California to work at the Navy*s research, development, and test facility at China Lake, and incidentally, to learn to ski!

The majority of his career was centered in performing and managing weapons effectiveness studies for the Navy. That involved presenting the best analytical data available in the writing of reports, and assuring that a primary focus was always to eliminate the *fiction* that tries to sneak into them. He is now retired and enjoys golf and other outdoor activities.

Endangered Solitude is Al*s first attempt at writing a novel where fiction is the primary focus. Writing the book was inspired by simple curiosity about writing fiction and how it compares with technical writing. In addition, there were several actual events that served as fodder for feeding the curiosity about fictional dialog. One thing led to another and eventually there was a completed manuscript.
