It is a very useful book that not only details possible problems readers may run into, but also presents clear and user friendly solutions. It is especially useful for the novice, although anyone interested in dreadlocks will surely find some good tips as well.

The use of personalized stories helps the reader relate to the author and to others choosing dreadlocks. The books tone is friendly yet authoritive.

The amount of research and life experience contained in the book are impressive. The author's expertise and passion for the subject are evident throughout.

About the Author

Writer, former salon owner, consultant , hair care options specialist and artisan, Mary Reed-Johnson has been active in the hair care industry since 1984. In 1996, she became the first braid artisan recognized by the Minnesota State Arts Board.

She offers lectures, demonstrations and workshops to arts and historical centers, community colleges, public libraries and more.

Mary labels herself a hair care options specialist. She recently developed a public health, safety and sanitation course that was approved by the Minnesota Cosmetology & Barber Board. She teaches the 30 hour class to professional hair braiders.

She holds a "Natural Hair Care Specialist" license from the State of New York. She also holds a "Cosmetology Manager" license in Minnesota. She utilizes a plethora of braiding, hair extension, traditional styling and color techniques. She is the author of "The World of Dreadlocks; creator of the dreadlock development wheel and has written miscellaneous articles about the hair industry.

In her spare time she is a wheat weaver and serves on a cosmetology board committee developing potential rules and laws for mobile salons in Minnesota.
