About the Book

The McNamaras of Northeast Iowa is a compendium of names, family history, the and photographs of the descendants of John W and Anna Maloney McNamara. John and Anna immigrated from County Clare, Ireland and eventually settled at Anamosa, Iowa in approximately 1855. John and Anna had thirteen children - six females and seven males. These children increased the surname list to include Smith, McAleer, Dolan and Woods. The descendants of these families are traced by including names, newspaper and other public documents and photographs to the present day.



About the Author

Howard Wahlert was born in 1940 on a Southwest Iowa family farm northeast of the town of Exira. After a thirty - year career in telecommunications (AT&T, Northwestern Bell, US WEST) he retired during 1990 at age 49. He married Teresa McNamara who was born and raised in Dubuque, Iowa. Among his various interests are genealogy. In 1996 he published The Wahlerts of Southwest Iowa and a subsequent addendum in 2004
