About the Book
My Best Girl is a story about the time in a dog's life after it passes away and until it is reunited with its owner. The story is in the form of a poem that begins with a dog overlooking a valley and spending time doing things like chasing rabbits, sleeping on the bed, and meeting other dogs. The dog imagines what they will be doing after reuniting with the owner, like hunting pheasants and sitting by the fireplace. The final panel is a picture of an expectant and happy dog waiting for its owner. The book concludes with a short synopsis of the real dog, Katie, that inspired My Best Girl. The veterinarian diagnosed Katie with lymphoma and histiocitic sarcoma when she was almost eight years olds. About three weeks after her eighth birthday, she passed away. The book is important in helping people, young or old, who have lost their pets in coping with their grief.
