About the Book

Enjoying the carefree curiosities of the newly blossoming spring in the 17th-century village of Andover, Massachusetts is the last thing on the mind of sixteen-year-old Sarah Hawthorne. The untimely death of her parents has forced her to begin a life of servitude under the roof of her oppressive aunt and uncle. To make matters worse, the encroaching effects of the Salem Village witch trials has brought news that Amanda Dane's, Sarah's best friend, aunt has just been cried out upon. In an attempt to use her own family ties to help her dear friend, our young heroine risks bringing the accusation of witchcraft to her own doorstep. Following the rash inspirations of her heart, Sarah chooses a life-altering move, trying not only to secure her own freedom, but that of other innocent victims as well.

About the Author

April Parker lives with her husband, Bill, and her cat, Luna, in Randleman, North Carolina. She and her husband share the same careers as both writers and teachers. Other past times that she enjoys include gardening, cooking, reading, and handcrafting custom jewelry.

In her first book, Watching the Innocent, Parker has shown us her love for combining the fascinating tales of historical fiction with the background research that is vital to give her readers a true insight into the time period. As in her third grade classroom at Southmont Elementary, it is not enough to grab the attention of her audience, but to also teach the valuable knowledge essential for growing generations in our world.

With plans to continue writing historical fiction, Parker is currently working on her second book based upon the lives of two famous female pirates. She hopes to thrill and challenge her young adult readers so that they may be inspired to further seek the truths of these unique people and places in history.
