About the Book
The first girl was found on a Tuesday morning and rumours of a Yorkshire Ripper copycat were circulating the factory like a flu virus, when DS Terry Ackrington arrived for work that morning. Neither the station Super or his own DI were particularly pleased.
It is 1985 and thanks to the Miners Strike, emotions are running high in West Yorkshire. To be a cop under these conditions is to be vilified. To be the Enemy Within. Now, they*ve a serial killer on their hands stalking young women in Gerry Healy*s WRP.
Terry Ackrington is a DS on the horns of a dilema. His father is a retired miner dying of silicosis and his brother Johnnie, a striking miner, has recently joined the Workers Revolutionary Party. Family pressure on Terry to hand in his papers is enormous. Then, Susan Higgins is brutally murdered by the Wolverly Pimpernel * the butt end of a deadly, pornographic joke.
Terry promises the mother of the dead girl he will find the killer. This reinforces his alienation from his family. But things get worse when evidence points to a member of the WRP Security Directorate. Or of MI5. Or both
