About the Book

Slade thought he'd left his crime fighting days behind when he left for the northern wilderness. However, the on going opium drug wars were heating up again in the city of Vancouver, BC and police chief Charles Hobbs knew Slade was the man to get the job done. Slade knew he had to go back, but going back included the hope of re-kindling an old romance. Thoughts of that woman had played on his mind ever since he left the city. He now knew this was the woman for him, but would she still have him after all this time? Would he survive the battle against evil men in pursuit of power and money?

About the Author

Bernard McKay was born and raised in the Vancouver area. His interest in local history as well as inner city crime led to writing his first novel Slade. However he has spent most of his adult life in the rural area of British Columbia living and exploring the wild rivers of the north, using an old style riverboat he made himself. From his outdoor experiences as an outdoorsman, big game guide and trapper he has also written two nonfiction books. The first was Wild Trails Wild Trails. Bernard received the Jeanne Clarke Local History Award for his next book Crooked River Rats (which was on the British Columbia Best Sellers list for six weeks). This book relates the story of the river men who freighted goods by longboat to communities and trading posts on the Crooked River and Peace River before there was access to the country by road. Other pioneering men and women who traveled the waterways into the Peace River country are also featured. Hancock House Publishers, Surrey, BC, published both of these volumes. Mr. McKay and his wife still live in the wild area northwest of Prince George, BC where he operates a registered trapline every winter.
