About the Author

Martin Laprise has experience in culinary art and pastry art; his career spans over 20 years working in Quebec, Alberta, British Columbia and the Caribbean.

Over the years, Martin has worked in restaurants, cafeterias, banquet halls, movie catering, private catering, pastry shops, cruise ships and AAA 4-diamond fine dining rooms. He has cooked Greek food, Italian, Canadian, American, French, Asian and more, all this during breakfast, lunch and dinner. Martin's career was built on integrity, teamwork, honesty and a desire to improve and guide all the cooks he crossed path with over the years.

When Martin's daughter decided to become a chef, he knew that he needed to do something big to help her make the right decision.

Martin thought that a book about everything he had learned over the years would really help his daughter and many cooks or chefs find the right career path for them. "So many times good cooks are wasting away a big part of their culinary career in the wrong concept", Martin says. After having worked in more than 24 of the jobs described in the book with thousands of cooks and chefs, Martin decided to write a book to his daughter about what it is like to be a chef. This book is intended for all culinary students thinking about becoming a chef, giving them the tools necessary to make a sound decision about their future career.

The biggest lesson that comes out of this book is simply that so many times people start on a career path without knowing enough about that trade. After reading My Daughter Wants to be a Chef! Everything You Should Know About Becoming a Chef! you will be left with a sense of having already worked as a chef. It's an honest professional view from inside kitchen walls, a compilation of facts and stories that happen to cooks and chefs everyday all over the world.
