About the Book

A 40-something university professor and a married graduate student fall in love, each feeling that their relationship is what has been missing from life. Their idealized world of romance and passion is at first wonderful, then strained and rocked when reality intrudes. As the close emotional bond between the crumbles under various stresses and things fall apart, their physical bond persists, leaving the professor confused, needy, and desperate. She adapts to the new reality quicker and easier than he does, and when she ends the relationship, he goes through various stages of pain, disillusionment, sorrow, desperation, and eventually, self-discovery.
