About the Book
Tommy hikes in the forest with his father who is a naturalist. He uses six senses to enjoy his hike; seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, touching, and thinking how he feels inside. During the hike Tommy experiences the forest with his five senses. He also thinks about how the hike makes him feel inside. He feels the strength and energy of the huge trees. He feels the warmth of the forest, the love. He feels the quiet of the forest, the peace. He decides using his six senses makes hiking more fun.

![]()
Donna Rae Gelder was brought up by her parents to love and enjoy nature. A walk in the forest was a wondrous adventure and still is a much looked forward to hobby. Donna taught grades kindergarten through three, but mostly her favorite, first grade, for 33 years before she retired. Teaching a love of reading and enjoyment of listening to books was a daily part of her teaching. She would often write stories to go along with the curriculum. Enthusiasm for trying new ideas was not taught, but caught by her children.
