About the Book About the Author Excerpts Catalogue Information About the Book
Deployments have the biggest impact on the children of sailors, and yet, until now there have been no books published to assist children through these trying times. The basic premise of Cruising the World: A Handbook for Navy Children is to provide military children with a fun, interactive, resource book, which will assist in their understanding of the deployment process. Chapter 1 of this practical handbook presents 11 activities to be used with children as fun ways of keeping track of separation periods while parents are on deployments. The remaining chapters include engaging activities about the countries in which deployed personnel will visit during various deployments. The chapters are broken into Mediterranean, Westpac, Northern Europe, and Persian Gulf Cruises. Each chapter includes a map of each country, a coloring picture of each country's flag, and a picture of a child from each country dressed in the country's clothing, ready to be colored. In addition, each chapter consists of a craft and/or a game, or a recipe representing each country; these crafts, games and recipes are fun and easy ways to teach children about the countries their parent(s) visit during deployment. Cruising the World: A Handbook for Navy Children would be a great gift for children of service personnel. The activities presented in this book are great ways to keep children educated and involved in their parents' experiences while the parent(s) is defending our country thousands of miles away.
