About the Book

Three shots rang out in quick succession. The first bullet made his right leg jerk. The second bullet made the man under him scream. The third bullet struck his right shoulder and rolled him over on his back. He struggled up on his left elbow and watched in stunned horror as the gunman took careful aim to fire again. His arm collapsed as his mind began a rapid spiral into a deep, black pit. Then, the darkness swallowed him.

Marianne Martinville, a nurse, returns to her hometown to settle her late father's estate after his unexpected death. She is surprised to learn that her father, a real estate broker, has been under suspicion by authorities of criminal activities with suspected organized crime connections. Knowing the charges are false, she wants to clear her father's name, but is frustrated at every turn.

Meanwhile, needing to find work, she takes a job with an old friend who runs a visiting nurse business. A while later, she is assigned a mysterious patient who refuses to reveal anything about his past or the cause of his injuries. As time goes on, she begins to develop a romantic interest in her mystery patient--an interest she feels is being reciprocated by her patient. As the relationship between them deepens, she is drawn inexorably into his mystery and becomes a willing part of it. Their relationship becomes dangerous when criminals come seeking her patient, and she must use all her wits and skills to save herself and her patient from death.
