About the Book

Jack is a mischievous kitten, his best friend is a bulldog puppy called Doug. They live with Pete and Sally at Rose Cottage in St. Ives in Cornwall. It is Christmas day and Sally is cooking the Christmas turkey. She leaves it on the table where Jack discovers it and persuades Doug to help him carry it off. Unfortunately things don't go according to plan. Whilst dragging the turkey across the table it topples onto the floor. Doug ends up in the rubbish bin where Sally finds him in tears. She turns around and sees Jack still on the table, he runs off and hides. Later Jack tries to cheer Doug up by playing with the Christmas tree decorations, things go wrong again. The Christmas tree is ruined. Jack escapes through the cat flap but Doug gets stuck and is left to face the music. It all ends well, when the boys tuck into a turkey supper. Off to bed and the wind blows the cat flap open making a scary noise. Jack is afraid but he doesn't let on. He persuades Doug that if they share a basket he will be able to keep Doug warm.

About the Author

Phyllis Nicholls was born in Cornwall where she has lived all her life. Growing up in a family of nine children, she lived in the country in a cottage surrounded by green fields with picture postcard scenery right outside her bedroom window. At home her family had numerous dogs and cats, not to mention a horse, a goat, pigs, cows, chickens and budgerigars. She is married to Vince. They have two grown up children Sarah and James. They all live in a small Cornish village with their terrier dog Boomer and two cats Simba & Nala. When the children were small Phyllis made up stories to tell them at bedtime. She has always wondered what adventures cats and dogs get up to, it seems she has discovered their secrets and now she tells us.
