About the Book
Marni Altaker-Mount's My First Day of School is a great starter book for any child experiencing school for the first time. Marni Altaker-Mount wrote this book while pursuing her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education. After successfully completing her undergraduate studies, completing a Masters of Education, and teaching for eight years she realized there was a need to publish her book for both classroom and home use to help children cope with their first school experience. Through the use of vivid color illustrations by AmyBeth Quering, this book is not only verbally stimulating but also visually entertaining.
My First Day of Schoolhas easy text for read-alouds with early reader attention to numbers and letters. This book is a great tool for early education. The theme, of course, is the first day of school. A usual view would be from a child's perspective; this book is from a teacher's perspective. The reader does not find this out until the end of the book, but it clearly shows the teacher and the children share the same routines and apprehensions about the first day of school. This is quite a lovely and educational book, which will reach children, parents, and teachers. This book will also be a useful motivational tool for children with a fear of their first day in a classroom setting.

Amy's Bio: AmyBeth was born in Cherry Hill, New Jersey in 1977. Described by those who know her as a rare combination of left-brain-right-brain, AmyBeth could just as easily have pursued her Major in Fine Arts with her extensive background. Instead, she explored her passions for Graphic Design, Photography and Digital Illustration.
Her ability to synthesize the fine art with graphic design and incorporate her diverse passions into each piece has led to a wealth of self-discovery and a fascinating progression of work, including; museum exhibit designs, marketing materials, custom invitations, corporate artwork, children's murals, and photography. She derives her creative energy from experience, whether painting a nebula in oils or creating digital illustrations on her Macintosh, any medium will suit her just fine.
AmyBeth has been working in the design field for over 10 years, and has a Degree in Graphic Design. Along with working towards her Masters, AmyBeth also owns a small design firm in New Jersey called InnerRealm Designs. She is happily married and loves to spend time with family, friends, and her three rabbits.
