About the Author

Charles "Carlos" Winkler is better known as Judge Charles R. Winkler. Born and raised in Chicago, he attended Loyola University and in 1957 obtained an undergraduate degree in Sociology. He graduated from the College of Law at DePaul University in 1960 and was admitted to the practice of law in Illinois the same year. He spent most of his adult life in private practice trying personal injury cases on behalf of plaintiffs. During that time he represented Americans and Canadians in the sale and purchase of condominiums in Acapulco. In 2000 the Illinois Supreme Court appointed him to serve as a circuit court judge in Cook County. He's a member of several local and national bar associations and is a Fellow of the Illinois Bar Foundation.

After he began traveling to Mexico two or three times a year, his friends started calling him "Carlos", a name he readily responds to. His sons, Chuck and Mike, have been regular visitors from their diaper to their disco days. Now his grandchildren, twins Grant and Cameron, are following in his sons' footsteps. Judge Winkler is active in community affairs and bar association activities. He is the author of several articles which have appeared in legal publications. This is his third book.
