About the Book
It was a happy day in the city of Poughkeepsie. Mr. Mooney built a new supermarket.
After a time Mr. Mooney's supermarket was a success. But his happiness soon faded, as he recalled his sweetheart, Marcella, had moved to the country. See, Mr. Mooney loved Marcella and she loved him, but he didn't like animals! And Marcella loved animals. He had everything he ever wanted in life, except a wife... "Marcella, that is!"
Then one day Mr. Mooney wished with all his might, that Marcella would come back to the city and be his wife.
In the meantime, utter chaos occurs, when a red mouse named Pesky Beamer shows up at the supermarket. Mr. Mooney becomes jittery, jumpy and worried, that Pesky Beamer has come to ruin him and the supermarket. He skedaddles to and fro hiding Pesky Beamer in the most unlikely places.
What is Mr. Mooney to do, when to his astonishment he learns Pesky Beamer belongs to Marcella, the woman he loves. He'll do... whatever it takes!
Mr. Mooney gets what he asked for, plus a whole lot more than he bargained for.
With a sparkle of mischief, in a cunningly simple mixture of fantasy and reality, Penny Newland explores the value of love and what it takes to compromise in a constantly changing world.
Her lively text and William Burn's innovative artwork make for an inventive picture book overflowing with action and humor.
