Calabaza is a young, elementary school teacher that relies on her family's love, support, and encouragement during her six months of treatment. Escoba, her husband, Arana, her sister, and her Mami and Papi plan activities to lift Calabaza's spirit during the tough times. Calabaza's family plans daily activities - from going to parks, feeding the ducks, pretending to be rock stars and completing puzzles - creating a strong family bond. The book contains page-size, bright illustrations and a Spanish/English dictionary with nine words used throughout the book. The story is based on the author's personal experience.

About the Author - Monica Broome was diagnosed with Hodgkins Disease in December of 2000. Today, she is a cancer survivor and has been in remission for four years. She currently resides in Tallahassee, Florida with her husband Jeff and their 13-month-old daughter Mackenzie. She is a dedicated elementary school teacher with ten years of experience in the state of Florida and is actively involved in various cancer events.

About the Illustrator - Dayana R. Muzinek, the author's sister, played the role of Araña in the author's life. It was her sister's positive attitude, will to survive, and love for life that encouraged Dayana to make the author's six months of treatments the most fun, happy, and loving moments of their lives as sisters and friends. Dayana currently resides in Hollywood, Florida and is actively involved in various cancer events.
